December 7, 2020
Dear Iroquois School District Faculty, Staff, and Families,
As I begin to write this communication to you, I would be remiss if I did not thank you for your continued efforts to follow the necessary safety procedures to keep our school open during this national pandemic. Students crossed our thresholds today to begin their 61st day of in-person instruction, and I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work they’ve put in while being safe in their classrooms. Unfortunately, we received five positive/probable results just today. Under the current health and safety plan, it is recommended that we close the school building for live instruction for a period of three to five days.
As of Tuesday, December 8, 2020, I regret to announce that all students in attendance at Iroquois Elementary School will begin virtual instruction. In accordance with the most recent guidelines, this shut down will take place through the end of this week. Students will be required to follow the virtual schedules that were given to them and then subsequently mailed home with their Quarter 1 report cards. Students will use Schoology and Zoom from Tuesday, December 8, 2020 through Friday, December 11, 2020 to access instruction. Currently, we anticipate returning to the building for live instruction on Monday, December 14, 2020.
Our entire administrative team will continue monitoring the positive COVID cases within our building as well as the numbers reported for Erie County. As a team, we will evaluate the need for additional virtual days on Friday, December 11, 2020 based on current case numbers. Additional updates will be posted on the District website. Keeping the safety of our students and staff in mind, we will provide updates regarding the current situation and information regarding our students’ return to school. I would ask all of you to check the Iroquois Elementary School website daily for additional announcements. It is our goal to keep the safety of our students at the forefront of our decision-making, while still meeting students’ needs academically in a virtual format.
The faculty, staff, and building administration will be in the building daily, beginning December 8, 2020. We will not be permitting anyone else to enter the school during this brief closure. Feel free to contact the school or the Assistant Pandemic Coordinator, Karen Barringer @ (814) 899-7643 x6109 with any questions related to the closure. For any technology-related questions/needs, contact the ISD Help Desk at 814-897-2416.
It is our desire to return to in-person instruction as soon as it is safe for students to re-enter the building. Again, I thank you for your efforts, which have allowed our school to reach this milestone of 61 days of in-person instruction.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Foutz
Principal
